Today in class we read and finished the front page of “I’m Nobody! Who are you?” by Emily Dickinson
- What Dickinson is suggesting by saying she's a “nobody” means she’s not like other people, she isn’t what normal people would call normal. The term ‘nobody’ would mean she's not importanted, meaning she isn’t worth being anybody.
- She would love to be somebody, she would like to be normal or with people that would recognise her. She is saying that public life seems to be more appealing.
- You can hear a frog but you can’t see them, meaning that somebody well he heard but not seen. The metaphor deepens the meaning of her views because she just wants to be heard, not ignored.
- She wants to be heard but not seen, she would like to say things people would hear. Finding another “nobody” may give her comfort because she's not alone.
- The tone would be more excited on finding someone like her. She praises the idea of being “somebody”. Her being excited about finding someone else, tells me it's ok to be different.
- Dickinson says she would love to be somebody, someone that would be out there that would change people's perspective. In the 19th century there weren’t many people like her that liked what she liked. It wasn't normal either.
- With her way of writing she really makes simple words deep. She can impact the readers by the way she uses exact words for deep meanings.
- The poem has many themes of being a nobody and somebody, it could be good to be different and you don't have to conform to society's standards. She is saying that somebody’s don't have to be nice people, they can humiliate nobody’s.
- Dickinson says very little words but still, they hold a lot of meaning. The themes she can make in a little poem can change someone's life. Even in times where liking the same gender isn’t normal, she still makes poems on it.
- Her poem can be interpreted as helping others with loneliness or finding who they are. The terms “nobody” and "somebody” can still be said in today’s world. Not everyone is known, some people don’t talk to people causing them not to be popular.
